Dear all,
Many residents have reported being contacted through email by the Office of the Secretary over the past few days, in regards to the updating of the Register of Residents (RoR). An email was apparently sent to those who have not yet confirmed the entries they had submitted to the Office of the Secretary for updating their records in the RoR. The email requests those to whom these emails are sent to visit the Office of the Secretary between 9am and 5pm this week, or to write to [email protected] to schedule a home visit for the week.
This email from the Office of the Secretary further states that a message was apparently “circulated via RA massbulettin [sic], not to provide the information or not to collaborate with the groups.” This is totally false, and following the 12th August judgment of the Madras High Court, we have consistently encouraged residents to collaborate with the exercise of updating the RoR conducted by the Office of the Secretary. This can be verified by referring to our previous massbulletins on the matter: here, here and here.
Although we are not involved in the exercise of updating the RoR (in spite of our offer to help), we recommend all residents to cooperate with the exercise of updating the RoR by verifying information previously submitted to authorised members of the Office of the Secretary of the Auroville Foundation. Regarding home visits more specifically, and as mentioned in our previous massbulletin on the matter: “it is entirely up to each Aurovilian to decide whether to welcome visiting members from working groups not selected by the Residents’ Assembly into their living spaces”.
If you would like to share your experience of RoR updating and/or home visits with us, please do not hesitate to write to [email protected] Please also do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions.
We note that the Office of the Secretary had announced the updating of the Register of Residents in early May 2022, more than five months ago. We hope that the exercise of verifying RoR entries will be soon concluded, so that the related confusion can be dispelled and give space to a more fruitful collaboration between the administration of the Secretary and the voices of the Residents’ Assembly.
Sincerely,
Your Working Committee
