RA TDC : Safety issues with the unsecured Crown road

Nov 3, 2022 | Destruction, Planning & development, Statements by the RA and the Working groups

Dear Residents, Volunteers and Guests,

We would like to warn you about severe safety issues at the moment on the Auroville roads. The roads are dangerous due to unsecured construction sites. In the last few months, a builder under contract with the CPWD and the Auroville Foundation Office has been working on the Crown road. Existing roads have been partly or fully dismantled and left without any warning signs, safety barriers or diversion signs in place. Additionally the street lights have been removed on some stretches.

Due to rain, many roads and bypasses have become muddy and extra slippery. We request everyone to drive very carefully during the monsoon. Several accidents have already taken place and been reported.

We have brought this most concerning matter to the attention of the Secretary, the CPWD, the Governing Board, and other relevant authorities on several occasions in the hope that appropriate signage and warnings will be put in place at the earliest.
